Without a doubt the best toaster we have ever owned. Automatically centers the toast and evenly toasts the slices of bread. The feature of being able to lift whatever is in the toaster to see if it is done to your satisfaction is very useful. You can do this with out having to disrupt the toasting element. Dialing the number to toast various items like bread, bagels and the defrost option is all you need. When it starts to toast it has a digital timer counting down until it's done, a neat feature. It's also less expensive than a Breville 4 slice or 4 slot toaster.

I am becoming more and more annoyed lately with purchases that turn out to be poor quality even though the manufacturer has a long-standing reputation. So this Breville toaster was a welcomed surprise! I have had it a few weeks and I love everything about it. First and foremost...it toasts evenly and consistently. The bagel feature is getting plenty of use for bagels and english muffins. What a difference! Crispy on the cut side but soft, not shrunken and dried like my old toaster left them. Once I experiment and find the correct setting for a certain type of bread, it is always consistent. You can check your toast's progress without interrupting the cycle. Very convenient. The toast raises up nicely without being hurled across the counter as some toasters do. The plug is unlike any I've seen. It has a built in "loup" that makes unplugging very safe and easy (something I do regularly to save energy). The brushed stainless steel finish is attractive. Chrome or plastic just don't look good in my craftsmen style kitchen. It seems to me this brushed steel would look good with almost any decor. I am a person who is impressed with quality, not bells and whistles. But I have to say not only am I impressed with the quality of this toaster, the extra features are extremely well-thought-out and engineered. do love the end-of-cycle beep. No more forgetting my bagels in the toaster. The lighted dial looks really cool, but my toaster faces the window, and I really have to get down to eye level and cup my hand around the display in order to read it.

This looks great if you need a tiny footprint, especially for the apparent 5" thickness (the 1-Slot Brayn is 25% wider) - But note it's also described as 4 inches.They are actually logical and useful. Breville? Never heard of it until I started looking for a new toaster. I had considered the Kitchen Aid but found it pricey for a basic toaster. The Breville isn't cheap either, but it has superior design and function, not to mention it will look great in any kitchen with stainless and/or black appliances. I have found the toaster to function flawlessly. I have not used the defrost or reheat settings yet. The bagel setting is wonderful. It directs the heat to the inside coils and therefore only toasts the inside of the bagel. I especially like the digital timer but it does take some initial guesswork to determine the proper time. The "lift and look" feature is great as it does not require you to restart the toast function. My only quibble (and one what would make it a PERFECT toaster) is that the release at the end of the toast cycle is your rather ordinary "pop." I would have been in awe had it been a "soft eject" mechanism.

Some have complained about the plug. It does stick out from the socket quite a bit because it has a "grip ring." My outlets are under-cabinet outlet strips mounted horizontally.
